BBJr will release his I Did What I Could With What I Had LP on August 24th via Captcha Records. Based out of Dubuque, IA, Bob Bucko Jr. is the kind of singular and eclectic musician that follows his own particular path regardless of current or past musical trends. While the new record is full of back road ambiance and blues-tinged guitar meditations, Bucko approaches the American idiom from a left field leaning perspective. “The Strength of Ill Will” finds Bob casting a crepuscular spell as desert darkness falls, patiently wringing strange resonances from his instrument as he twists a repeated guitar refrain into plangent and odd chord structures–before Curt Oren‘s horn joins to blow warmly through the track. Gorgeous and strange indeed! The visuals, here, were created by Captcha Record’s Benjamin Funke, and while his evanescent use of glowing green and red color fields provide some nice eye candy, it’s the brave use of negative space that really seems to echo this track’s late night vibe.
