Having long since graduated from being just that “girl in a video”, FKA twigs has subsequently revealed herself to be a creative force of nature with an elemental and singular vision. She follows up her excellent 2014 album LP1 with a new 5-song EP effort on Young Turks, M3LL155X. Again collaborating with the in-demand producer Boots, the artist reports that the new record was recorded during a “spontaneous creative period” following the completion of LP1.
In addition to the new music this month, FKA twigs also released this surreal 16-minute video that culls together previous work including “Figure 8“, “I’m Your Doll“, “In Time“, and the YouTube Awards clip for “Glass & Patron“. The press release for the short film calls the visuals “an aggressive statement conceptualizing the process of feeling pregnant with pain, birthing creativity and liberation.” Possessing a stunning cult of personality as well as a formidable will to power, FKA twigs intricately conceived female image is always the star of these videos, and few artists are capable of projecting such a formidable array of personas with such intriguing clarity.
