Watch: Publicist UK “Away”

1922

Publicist UK‘s powerful new album Forgive Yourself is out now on Relapse, and today we check out the band’s video for their track “Away“. Directed by Heather Crank, these visuals utilize a very intriguing multi-screen format to present various kinds of abstracted media. Opening up like strange wormholes into other dimensions, one screen often leads to the next via an expanding circle into which the viewer is projected. Crank incorporates mostly black and white imagery, alternating textures and media, as well as abstract and pictorial perspectives, to blur visual lines in some really cool, eye catching ways.
On the sonic front, “Away” holds a deeply emotive gravity that centers around singer Zachary Lipez‘s hypnotic baritone. The track features stellar guitar work from David Obuchowski, whose unwinding melodic lines set in motion the kind of sweeping undertow that is difficult to resist; and while there’s a starry eyed bliss to it, you sense that at any time this band, especially with the help of bassist Brett Bamberger and drummer Dave Witte, could unleash a truly crushing sonic assault.
