!!! (Chk Chk Chk) will release their As If LP on October 16th via Warp Records. In anticipation of the album, the group continues to tease a series of tracks and videos from the upcoming effort. So far we’ve previewed the cuts “Freedom! ’15,” as well as “Sick Ass Moon,” so today let’s watch the new video for “Bam City.”Additionally, we have the band’s new track “Ooo” available for streaming below.
On the video front, Nic Offer and Dan Gorman mess around on the laptop cam with animation from Mad Ruffian and !!! pal Luke Crotty. In a note about the video, this important detail is shared: “We did 3 takes…and I swear Mr. Meow was more excited about dancing in the earlier takes”.
Sonically, “Bam City” and “Ooo” show off the band’s infectious take on funk driven dance music. There’s been an immediacy and freshness to the production on these As If tracks so far, which means they feel less over worked than some of the song’s on 2013’s Thr!!!er (Warp). Rather than trying to re-break the mold on this new album, it seems the band sought to capture the more immediate sound of their live shows. Think beaujolais vs. cabernet sauvignon, if your ear palette is capable of synethesia and the mixing of metaphors. Not sure you smell what we’re smokin’, well give the tracks a listen yrself…
