Watch: Publicist UK “Canary”

Publicist UK‘s debut LP Forgive Yourself, out this past August on Relapse, is quickly becoming one of our favorite records of 2015. Fans of bands like Swans or The Afghan Whigs will find much to love in this quartet’s post-punk approach, but the real secret to the amazing, genre blending crosswinds that blow thru this effort lie in the group’s seasoned pedigree. The line-up includes bassist Brett Bamberger (Revocation), vocalist Zachary Lipez (ex Freshkills), guitarist David Obuchowski (Goes Cube, Distant Correspondent), and drummer Dave Witte (Burnt By the Sun, Municipal Waste, Melt Banana), music veterans seasoned in the dark arts of metal and hardcore! This bands ability to get heavy at a moments notice seems to bristle on every cut, and while tracks like “Away” and “Canary” are ultimately beautiful, pop structured songs, a formidable power always lurks just beneath the surface.
Today we watch the band’s video for “Canary“. Directed by David John, the visuals feature vintage footage from the Prelinger Archive. Using mostly black and white medical imagery that centers around the eye and ear, this video achieves striking results during a late bridge in the track when it briefly alters the monochromatic and “didactic” images for richly colored filmic clips of natural landscapes.
