Listen: Metz “Eraser”

589

METZ will release their “Eraser” single on January 22nd, with vinyl 7″ copies available thru the San Diego label Three One G, and digital versions via Sub Pop. These are the band’s first recordings since their II LP came out earlier this year on Sub Pop, and if “Eraser” is any indication the band is in as noisy and ear scraping form as ever! Recorded by Graham Walsh at Union Sound Company, and mastered by Matthew Barnhart at Chicago Mastering Service, this track still manages to come packaged in some serious sonic grit. Like much of the punk music emerging from Toronto–checkout some favorites from the cities’ Buzz Records like HSY or Odonis Odonis–this music burns with a dire and caustic fervor that brings to mind the early days of Big Black, the Butthole Surfers, Touch and Go’s virulent roster, or even band’s from the glory days of Sub Pop’s more shambolic youth. And yet, METZ furious urgency means this is a music agonizingly engaged in the now!
