TWINS‘ new EP Never Know Yourself is out now on the producers’ Atlanta-based label CGI Records. “Tassel (Now You Know)” opens the 12″ with some gritty, dance floor euphoria. Combining a bass heavy strut with high flying polyrhythms, this cut ebbs and flows through textured layers of tension. Jump roping kicks meet a funky FM bassline, while hi-hats simmer in a heat mirage during “Tassel…”‘s beat heavy opening. Before long, though, this dense rhythmic matrix is mellowed by an introspective keyline, and it’s melancholic tones come to serve as a perfectly plaintive counter-point to this track’s eventually wheeling and mantric lead.
