Listen: Gaunt “MMRH”

Today we take a listen in on the UK’s thriving and cosmopolitan electronic music scene with this new cut “MMRH“, from the 20-year-old Brixton-based producer Gaunt. While studying graphics in London, Jack Warne decided to send off some of his tracks to producer/label owner Beneath, who quickly jumped at the opportunity to release the young man’s music. His debut EP, Crowd Noise, is due out via Beneath’s Mistry imprint on December 4th, and the 4-track 12″ will include the noir-leaning rhythms of “MMRH”. Warne crafts spellbinding urban ambience from a bare bones palette of oscillating hums and hi-pitched tones, like listening to the trains running in the distance at 4am, but the real focus here are the producer’s off-kilter and intricate beatscapes. Weaving the “warp and woof” of jungle and dub-step into a dense and resonating tapestry of kick and snares, “MMRH” sounds like London deep in a fever dream.
