Moiré “Mirrors”

London-based producer Moiré released a stellar new single today entitled “Mirrors” (Ghostly International.) The follow-up to his very cool 2014 LP Shelter (Werk Discs/ Ninja Tune), the musician recently explained:

“The idea behind “Mirrors” is to have something opposite to Shelter…This is about coming out and focusing entirely on music, beyond what I know.”

He goes on to say, “My goal is to break into the other world. The one that’s hidden behind what you hear, and to get lost in it.” If that sounds like a lofty sentiment, it’s still a good framework for approaching “Mirrors”–a cut which augments Moiré’s hyper-stylish sound by going deeply inward.

While Shelter bears a conversational, if soft spoken style, like a good friend whose words you never want to miss, on this new cut he leaves the talking behind, instead using a minimal and rhythmic approach to the music. The result is a focus on the deep, telepathic groove that is indeed “hidden behind what you hear.”
