Oneohtrix Point Never will release his Garden of Delete LP tomorrow on Warp Records. “Ezra” is the newest audio installment from Daniel Lopatin‘s twisted cyber-saga. If you haven’t been following the lead-up to this album’s release, you might have some catching up to do…suffice it to say, though, the narrative[contextly_sidebar id=”4u7ObwoEfJFbaIYs5IXpsEve3NpK8Xz9″]surrounds Ezra, an extremely talented street kid with a seriously alien skin disorder.
Not sure if any of that is truly needed to appreciate Lopatin’s increasingly left-of-field compositional style, but the intriguing storyline does help frame Garden of Delete‘s dizzying sonic approach. “Ezra”‘s fragmented samples are meticulously re-sutured back together thru the musician’s hyperactive, next-gen sequencing. With audio references that channel surf the bargain bin of the recent past, as well as EDM’s bleeding-edge-nightlies, Lopatin juggles structural decisions with the speed and acumen of a chess master–all the while couching the emotive qualities of his music in a wildly shifting palette of sonic textures that can be heard, as well as felt!
