French labels Atelier Ciseaux & AB Records will tag team to release Sierra Manhattan‘s new self-titled tape, due out November 24th as a limited edition cassette of only 100 copies. Previous efforts like 2014’s EP and 2013’s Room By the Trees were home recorded gems of hazy, lo-fi pop that reveled in homespun intimacy and unpretentious production. For instance, a liner note to EP reads, “All tracks written, recorded & awfully mixed by Sierra Manhattan in his room by the trees”. While this newest effort continues to trade in warped but charming bedroom pop, tracks like “Moonburned Girl” and “Dancing” are a bit more delicately fleshed out and more fully enlivened by a live recording here from the band’s bassist, Rémi Richarme–who also does the mixing this time. Don’t worry, though, the frowzy sound of indolent student days still abounds, even as Sierra Manhattan matriculates towards a more full sonic realization.
