Watch: Alex G “Brite Boy”

753

Philly-based guitarist and singer Alex G weaves beautifully warped pop magic on his 2015 Domino Records‘ debut, Beach Music. “Brite Boy” is an off-handed ditty that plays like a wide-eyed love song, seemingly complete with twee male/female vocal exchanges. Thing is, both voices are Alex Giannascoli‘s, with some pitch shifting thrown in so that he sounds like an innocent and expectant lover. Perfectly weird, and ultimately fraught with a wistful sort of loneliness, “Brite Boy” opens a Freudian Hall of Mirrors on a problematic search for companionship.
The music video for this track features awesome “hand drawn” animation from Elliot Bech. A trip out to the desert doesn’t end well for one coyote friend here, and after his buddy buries him, he returns from the beyond to check on his pal thru some flashback-like hallucinations. For more from this pair, looks like you can pick up a copy of Bech’s Brite Boy zine at upcoming Alex G live shows. Here is a list of the dates…
