Today, RVNG Intl. has issued an expanded and re-mastered version of Bing & Ruth‘s amazing 2010 debut LP, City Lake. The group is led by pianist/composer David Moore, and on this album he was joined by an orchestral line-up that included Jeremy Viner and Patrick Breiner on clarinet, Greg Heffernan and Leigh Stuart on cello, Jeff Ratner on bass, Myk Freedman on lap steel, Chris Berry on percussion, Becca Stevens and Jean Rohe on vocals, as well as Mike Effenberger providing tape manipulations. The video for “Broad Channel“, City Lake‘s ambient opener, is directed by Alex Priestley, and it’s dream-like story follows a curious man on an obscure journey. Seeming to emerge from the waters of a placid inlet, he travels across an idyllic landscape pushing a wheelbarrow with a suitcase in it. Eventually arriving at the ocean’s edge, he discovers an alien group of creatures on the beach, and when he goes to photograph them, the only result seems to be a handful of sand.
