Watch: Oneohtrix Point Never “Repossession Sequence”

926

This week Oneohtrix Point Never teamed up with his visual collaborator Nate Boyce on this far-out animated short called, “Repossession Sequence“. Featuring excerpts from Garden of Delete (Warp) tracks “Freaky Eyes”, “Ezra”, and “Mutant Standard”, as well as a bit of a new composition, the video description posits:

“Is this the intro to a TV show about an orbital prison cell chained to freely roaming organism? The sculpture’s burden is the prison of another organism it cannot communicate with. In certain cases the imprisoned organism could become a cipher through which its captor speaks.”

Meanwhile, Boyce’s exquisitely surreal 3-D animations imagine a bizarre future world of frightening machinery and apocalyptic cityscapes that always seem to hang on the edge of being real. But, even more dislocating is the way he renders these objects, buildings and interiors incohate. Form and formlessness meet in such a way as to cast function and utility aside, opting instead for an eerie dream logic that blends the familiar and strange in intoxicating ways.
OPN and Boyce have just finished up their preliminary round of live dates, and have just announced more touring plans that include headline shows in New York and London. Check out the dates below, and you can see some pictures from the pair’s recent stop in Seattle here.
