Watch: BORIS with MERZBOW “Huge”

You can always expect explosive results when legendary Japanese heavyweights Boris and Merzbow get together. The two have collaborated in the past on LPs like 2002’s Megatone, 2005’s Sun Baked Snow Cave, and 2011’s Klatter–as well as on the live recordings 04092001, Rock Dream, and the Walrus/Groon EP. This coming March 18th the titans will meet again on the 2xLP Gensho (Relapse), which translates from Japanese as “phenomenon”. Comprised of two separate recordings, one from each sonic entity, the two records are meant to be played at the same time from two different speakers, with volume levels left up to the listener–hence the phenomenon or “Gensho experience”. Today we watch the musicians perform their track “Huge” live, and it’s an experience guaranteed to induce both sonic and visual overload. Boris lays it on heavy exploring their doomier side with tar thick riffs and glacially paced rhythm, while Merzbow’s ruthless power electronics carve wide swaths of crusted noise thru the band’s massive walls of roiling metal. Totally obliterating!
