Flying Lotus has scored director Eddie Alcazar‘s amazing new short film FUCKKKYOUUU, and it’s showing now at Sundance. Alcazar began his career working for Electronic Art‘s on their gaming series Medal of Honor, before beginning his own media production company, Alcazar Entertainment. Working on video game design and 3-D modeling was profitable, but ultimately unfulfilling creatively, so Alcazar sold his company to pursue filmmaking. Honing his vision through the creation of shorts like 2014’s TAPIA, distributed by HBO, Alcazar couples his fascination for science fiction and philosophy with an uncompromising visual aesthetic. FUCKKKYOUUU features eerie high contrast black and white footage straight from the depths of the subconscious. Ostensibly about a “lonely girl” who goes back in time to connect with her past self, only to face rejection and the realization that only one of these selves can survive, the film delves into notions of identity and gender with singular and often horror filled imagery. Brushed up on your Freud, lately?
