LNZNDRF is a New Zealand based post-rock trio getting set to release their self-titled debut LP on February 19th via 4AD. Today, we check out the band performing their tracks “Beneath The Black Sea“, “Mt. Storm“, and “Kind Things” in a live, studio environment, and it’s an excellent glimpse into how the group creates such an expansive sound from a minimal, yet essentialized sonic palette. Known for their mostly improvised live shows, LNZNDRF translated that experience into their upcoming record by recording these songs originally as 30 minute jams. Later, they were edited from their original long-form into more manageable sizes, but with run times still over six minutes they can find their way on their own time. And while the result is an organic song-craft built around concise phrasing and tight rhythms, there’s never a sense that these three offerings are constrained in any way. Instead, their long-form and exploratory origins seem some how deeply imprinted into the resulting track’s structure. Pretty nifty!
LNZNDRF will play select live dates in Europe, the UK, and US starting this February. Here is a list of the band’s upcoming tour schedule…
