Listen: AJ Cornell & Tim Darcy “Cosmetic Sadness”

1850

Tim Darcy of Ought joins sonic improviser and former CKUT Radio music programming director Andrea-Jane Cornell for some far-out forays into experimental music on their upcoming release, Too Significant To Ignore–due out March 18th via NNA Tapes. “Cosmetic Sadness” is our first listen in on the new project, and it’s combination of cinematic soundscape and spoken word finds the pair exploring otherworldly ambience and cryptic existential musings. Darcy’s words take center stage, spoken in a dry drawl that might bring to mind William Burroughs or a more deranged Bill Hicks, and the vocalist elucidates with peculiar precision and eerie repetition his daily ritual of “scraping, molding, rebuilding” his “cosmetic sadness”. Meanwhile, a haunting tapestry of synths and found sound unravel like a bad dream, mirroring Darcy’s seeming descent into madness.
