Setting out to make “the grossest pop album of all time”, The Body will release their No One Deserves Happiness 2xLP on March 18th via Thrill Jockey. “Hallow/Hollow” continues to demonstrate that Chip King and Lee Buford might have a pretty warped sense of what “pop” is, but they’ve got gross covered in spades–especially if by “gross” you mean heavy! Like a giant beast thrashing around in a primal soup, King’s guitar wields giant shards of blunt metal while Buford’s drums flail like a massive tail in the molten broth. Running amuck with murderous intent, King unleashes a tirade of unholy howls, sounding like a head without a body…or a body without a head. Eventually singer Chrissy Wolpert of the Assembly Of Light Choir, a longtime collaborator with the pair, joins the fray, and she presides over the track’s closing with a mournful incantation–before we are left with the uncanny sound of something wheezing or gasping for it’s last air.
