The Minneapolis-based band Night Moves is getting set to release their sophomore effort Pennied Days via Domino on March 25th, and today we take a listen to their new track named for everybody’s favorite pot smoking cosmonaut, “Carl Sagan“. Singer/guitarist John Pelant and bassist Micky Alfano recorded their upcoming effort with John Angello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile), and there’s a warm and vintage feel to the work that conjures up the golden days of 70’s rock. Much more than a nostalgic retread, though, a track like “Carl Sagan” is instead timeless, re-energized through the pair’s effortless songcraft, and singer John Pelant’s exemplary vocal abilities. Wide-eyed and boyish, Pelant possesses the kind of iconic voice that conjures up great crooners of the past, and there’s the sense that he’s still only beginning to tap and tame it’s powers.
