Legendary dub producer Adrian Sherwood has teamed up with the Japanese trio Nisennenmondai and together they will release #N/A this coming April via Sherwood’s On-U Sound Records. Formed in 1999, and with a name that translates as “Y2K Bug”, the all-female instrumental group is composed of guitarist Masako Takada, bassist Yuri Zaikawa, and drummer Sayaka Himeno. Initially a no-wave leaning band referencing the likes of Sonic Youth, DNA, and This Heat, through the years the band has tightened their sound into a kinetic and motorik force with international acclaim. Recorded in Tokyo with Sherwood at the desk, #N/A finds the band and producer exploring a minimal, organic sounding techno. “#3” is spare and propulsive, with Sherwood’s understated and deft dub touches accentuating the group’s rhythmic, bass driven throb.
