Palaces “Glisten & Trip / Still Romantic” The Detroit duo Palaces returned this month with a psych-infused new single, “Glisten & Trip/Still Romantic“. There’s a pretty nifty riff to start “Glisten & Trip“, and every time it seems to be climbing upward, it takes an unexpected detour back down. Meaty enough to marinate on, instead the pair distills several psych styled riffs here, with each time the final result taking a surprising turn as the duo confidently progresses them thru this track’s tightly structured narrative. “Still Romantic” follows a slightly different tact, ripping outta the gate on a driving and motorik beat with it’s “heart on fire”. While the “A-side” used solid song craft to contain it’s headier ideas, “Still Romantic”‘s one track mind means these guys can cut to the chase with a more carnal approach–and that suits them just fine as the sparks really fly from some fried and lo-fi guitar freakout!
