Experimental electronic composer Tim Hecker will release his upcoming LP Love Streams on April 8th via 4AD. Recorded throughout 2014 and 2015 at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland, where parts of his albums Virgins and Ravedeath, 1972 were tracked, the LP was also recorded with Virgins‘ collaborators Kara-Lis Coverdale and Grímur Helgason. Hecker’s fascination with 15th Century choral scores led to him working with the Icelandic Choir Ensemble, with vocal arrangements scored by Johann Johannsson woven into complexly processed creations that include studio tracked key-board and woodwind parts. Amorphously moving between layers of white noise and choral-led ambience, “Castrati Stack” is ultimately a deeply meditative piece that effortlessly draws the listener inward and upward on it’s sublimely golden tones. The video for “Castrati Stack” was created by filmmaker, ex-model, and bizarre restaurateur Brett Stabler, who uses what appears to be found footage of a military parade somewhere in Asia to haunting effect. Desaturated and blown out into searing whites, the video’s eerie footage pairs beautifully with the track’s icy and regal tones.
