White Lung is getting set to release their Paradise LP on May 6th via Domino. For the follow up to their excellent 2014 release Deep Fantasy (Domino), lead singer Mish Barber-Way recently told St. Vincent’s Annie Clark in a Q&A:
“I am content in my life, which is really bad for writing songs. I’m not newly heart-broken or falling in love or struggling…So, I wrote half of this album outside myself and from characters.”
The album’s lead track “Hungry” features the kind of imploding “star” that might dominate tabloid headlines, but in a more general way it’s about the emptiness of our image and fame obsessed culture.
The video for “Hungry” was directed by artist Justin Gradin, and it features the actress Amber Tamblyn, as well as a slew of cameos from indie musicians like Deap Vally, Deafheaven’s George Clarke, and more. Talking about the video, Gradin explains:
“‘Hungry’ plays with identity and perception, and the idea that sometimes public attention can create more isolation. The video focuses on a self obsessed girl (who is semi-famous for being on a milk can) as she struggles to stay relevant while being haunted by the ghosts of fame until her eventual epiphany of Disposability.”
