Exploded View “No More Parties”

Exploded View is a post-punk band that pairs the vocalist Annika Henderson with Crocodiles’ producer Martin Thulin, as well as the Mexico City musicians Hugo Quezada (Robota) and Amon Melgarejo (Jessy Bulbo, Nos llamamos). The group came together back in 2014 when Anika was playing a show in Mexico City, and needing a backing band, she assembled one over the internet with the help of local friends. She recently reported via her Tumblr page that it was “love at first sight,” with some “passive aggression” thrown in for good measure.

The band’s self-titled debut is due out in August via Sacred Bones, but coming up on April 1st you can pick up their “No More Parties in the Attic” single as a limited edition 7″. The group sure churns up a chthonic sound on the new track as humid bass lines bubble around the scrape and skitter of drums–while noisy industrial textures add an icy tension. Sounding ghostly, as though transmitted from some other plane of existence, Anika’s vocals have an eerie, disembodied quality about them here, and she narrates her strange tale in the kind of odd sing-song usually reserved for casting spells or temporary bouts with the irrational!
