Watch: Jake Meginsky “Seven Psychotropic Sinewave Palindromes”

Percussionist and electronic producer Jake Meginsky has a very intriguing new release called Seven Psychotropic Sinewave Palindromes out this month on NNA Tapes. The Massachusetts-based musician also releases music under the name Vapor Gourds, as well as collaborating with John Truscinski in the group Slaughterhouse Percussion, and with guitarist Bill Nace in F/I/P. As the title of Meginsky’s new release promises, this is quite the heady aural experience! The musician expertly crafts a minimal brand of electronics from four rudimentary elements: sine waves, square waves, white noise, and an 808 kick drum. Ghostly atmospherics often prevail, but it’s Meginsky’s ear for the deep and subtle grooves inside his compositions that animate these tracks in psychosomatic ways that will move the body and tickle the imagination. Visuals here are provided by Patrick Cain, and his heavily effected grey-scale images are crushed down into a haze of white noise that pulses and throbs to Meginsky’s spectral sonics.
