Gioumourtzina is an electronic duo hailing from Greece and they have just released their Blakk Metall LP via Inner Ear. The band’s moniker is a paraphrase in Turkish for the name of the Greek city Komotini and synth player/vocalist Anestis Neiros and bassist John Tselikas formed the band in May of 2014. The pair first caught ears with this ebullient cut, “Russian Market“. Expertly blending rock and electronic music influences, Tselikas compliments the track’s tightly nuanced and machine-driven drum rhythms with a phasing bassline reminiscent of The Cure. As the track builds around crisply driving snares and claps, Neiros adds cascading pads and swirling synth patterns to make for an exhilarating and uplifting ride!
