Listen: Pyramid Club ‘Live at Eyedrum – 12/16/2014’

This past February we checked out Pyramid Club‘s demo “Stay Behind”/”Heart Throb”. The duo is a new electronic project from DKA Records collaborators Matt Weiner (TWINS) and Chris Daresta (Anticipation), and today we give a listen to a pair of recordings they did at Atlanta’s Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery. Wanting the band to sound “loosely like the Cabs and Throbbing Gristle doing acid house”, Daresta and Weiner assembled their collection of machines late in 2014, and began writing songs to be played live. This recording was made back in Pyramid Club’s “early days”, then, as it was recorded in mid-December of that year. Containing a riveting version of the duo’s track “Heart Throb“, as well as an acid-heavy cut called “Out Of Time“, this playlist reveals these two are at their best without a net. Fusing their tightly honed mixing and DJ abilities with live instrumentation and vocals really gives these tracks a thrilling post-punk energy, and they capture perfectly in mood and spirit that time in the late 70’s when an experimental group like Throbbing Gristle was combining anarchic musical approaches with the newly emerging electronic gear of the time. Music for the gothic android in you!
