Castle Face Records seems like a good home for Seth Sutton‘s Useless Eaters project, with the label getting set to release another LP from the artist, Relaxing Death due out June 3rd. Growing up a skate kid in Memphis, TN in the early 2000’s, it was probably only natural that Sutton fell in with the local hardcore scene, but as he told Australia’s Beat Magazine, “When I was about 16 or 17, we were smoking marijuana and a friend put on this Sun Ra record, and I thought that was amazing. And then I realised that I could take a lot of those influences and make them my own.” Full of ideas, the young musician would go on to record a handful of tunes on a four-track given to him by a friend. Finding those well received, Sutton would fall in with the folks at Goner Records and Shangri-La, while eventually making the acquaintance of Memphis punk luminary Jay Reatard–even touring with him before his death in 2010.
In the years since Sutton has relocated to San Francisco joining the Castle Face crew a few years back. Relaxing Death will be Useless Eaters third album for the label, following up 2014’s Bleeding Moon and 2015’s Live In San Francisco. Full of nervous energy and a gritty industrial vibe, the musician recently told FADER that the new LP is a “concept record with ten different perspectives of people who are experiencing the modern world in rapid decline.” You can take a look at the album’s artwork and tracklist below, as well as Useless Eaters upcoming tour dates…
