Seems Willa Rae & the Minor Arcana know a thing or two about “Bad Ideas,” and on their hard-drinkin’ new track, the Detroit band tells a sordid tale of temptation and betrayal. Helmed by the powerful voice of Willa Rae Adamo, the singer’s razor sharp storytelling shines like a new bruise on this lead single off the group’s recently released 3-song EP, XIII. As our lady explains, passions run hot when her baby leaves to go downtown, and while he’s out “drinkin’ liquor and listening to noise”, this femme fatale confesses she’s, “makin’ mental lists of pretty little boys”.
Discussing the cut, Willa Rae explains, “The song started with the imagery of boot spurs, the sound of them rattling,” and with that firmly placed in her mind, she let’s her desires wander! Backed by Alexandria Berry on bass, Craig Adams on guitar, Ramiro Romero on banjo/acoustic guitar, Kaylan Mitchell on cello, and Mackenzie Sato on drums, Adamo sure finds herself in the ample and capable hands of a seasoned band. Knowing just what to do with their lusty vocalist, the Minor Arcana’s rhythm section lays down a freight train groove, with banjo, cello and acoustic guitar rounding out the group’s nuanced approach.
