Glasir ‘Unborn’ EP

Glasir is a post-rock trio from Dallas, Texas and their devastatingly heavy 3-song EP Unborn, originally released digitally in May of 2015, will get the vinyl treatment on July 8th from the Swiss label Elusive Sound. Formed in 2014, the band consists of Nate Ferguson on bass, Conner McKibbin on guitar and Austin Vanbebber on drums. The songs on Unborn were originally recorded over a three day period in 2015 by Sam Hunt, and they display the band’s ability to create nuanced and textured tracks with incredible dynamic range.

Precipice” begins in a dreamy slow motion, and at its beginning, the title’s edge is not yet in sight. Slowly gaining sonic momentum, though, Vanbebber marks a simple beat on his drums. Meanwhile Mckibben offering up face- melting guitar over Ferguson’s thundering bass as this cut launches itself over the cliff’s end with a massive head of steam.

Until We Dissolve” follows a similar tact to open, languidly unfolding a guitar melody before coalescing into a driving pace. The build-up here falls back to near quiet before exploding into a voluminous, skyward progression of guitar and bass, all the while prodded by Vanbebber’s marshaling rhythm. Unborn‘s closer, “Into The Void“, pummels from the get-go, before dropping into oblivion, where, over time, it reassembles itself into a flaming beast of massive proportions. Can’t wait to hear this record on vinyl!
