Listen to Lorelle Meets the Obsolete’s Track “La Distinción”:
The Mexican psych duo Lorelle Meets the Obsolete returns this year with their first long-player since the band’s 2014 effort, Chambers. Out again on Captcha Records/Sonic Cathedral, look for the pair to release Balance on September 10th. Recorded at the band’s studio in Ensenada, Mexico, the upcoming record was mixed by Chicago psych guru Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas), and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control/Eddy Current Suppression Ring).
“La Distinción” is the album’s first single and it mixes the hypnotic throb of psych with shoegaze’s shimmering walls of sound. Great attention has been paid to the track’s dynamics so that it’s fuzzed-out bass line shrouds, without blanketing, the guitar’s heady, tranced groove, and the effect is like seeing a bright moon behind fast passing clouds. Lorena Quintanilla‘s vocals join the proceedings in a woozy swirl, before face melting blasts of guitar double down on “La Distinción”‘s narcotic effects.
