Black Marble “Woods”

Black Marble will return on September 30th with a new LP entitled It’s Immaterial (Ghostly International.) This past July we listened to the album’s first single, “Iron Lung,” so today let’s check out the record’s second offering, “Woods.” Featuring down-turned arpeggiating synth lines that ripple with a crepuscular mood and billowing tones of smokey organ, there’s a quiet confidence to “Woods.”

While Chris Stewart’s vocals might have been buried beneath layers of tape hiss in the past, here they are only occluded by the twilight’s shadows. Beckoning his lover with the entreaty “Why won’t you come right out/And say what’s on my mind,” “Woods” is that desire for a deep, telepathic connection beyond the physical.
