When John Dwyer‘s not busy making punked-up psych as Thee Oh Sees, he’s down in the lab making psyched-out electro-punk as Damaged Bug. Either way, we’ll take it. “The Mirror” is off his Cold Hot Plumbs LP, out last year on Castle Face Records. Music video director Alfredo Lopez does the honors here, and using rhythmic compelling imagery, he sets this tense and motorik number to a noir tale with sci-fi overtones. When the video’s protagonist wakes up on a parking garage floor, looking a little worse for the wear, our mystery begins. This story comes complete with a raffish mad scientist that resembles William Burroughs, and stalking “The Mirror”‘s beautiful android, it seems he’s designated her for re-assignment.
