The Moscow-based duo Lovozero + Kira Weinstein have just released Hello World, a 16-minute improvised ambient work out now on the Russian label Full of Nothing. Weinstein, a veteran of Russia’s indie-rock scene, is joined in the group by Anastasia Tolchneva, who plays with Moa Pillar (Feodor Pereverzev) in the duo Tikhie Kamni, and has also released Zagovory, a solo EP that came out last year via the label Monoleak. Hello World is accompanied by an HD video performance presented by ????????? Magazine and shot by Eugene Todich and Andrey Kovalenko.
The video reveals the amazing subtilty and restraint of these two musicians as they combine electro-acoustics, programming, and vocals into a tantalizing drift. From near silent beginnings, these women craft a celestial ambiance from chilly drones and scattered melody, eventually adding soaring vocal tones and a deeply sublimated rhythm track to this improvised composition. Word has it that Lovozero + Kira Weinstein also have an upcoming release due out on the Russian avant-garde label Kotä, and as soon as we know more about the upcoming album we will let you know!
