Listen to Dan Deacon’s “Opal Toad Segment”:
NYC label Dymaxion Groove is getting set to release the 2xLP compilation I Said No Doctors! on January 18th. Celebrating musicians who push the limits of traditional instrumentation, the records will include tracks from Silver Apples’ Simeon Coxe, David Grubbs, Jad Fair and Dan Deacon, to name a few. This past December we got our first introduction when we watched Coxe manipulating his bench oscillators while whispering obscure incantations about the coming fog, in his video for “The Mist“. Today we listen to a portion of Dan Deacon’s contribution to the collection, “Opal Toad Segment“. Using a MIDI-triggered grand piano, Deacon unleashes hair-trigger sweeps of arpeggiating notes. Played at superhuman speed, these runs stream off into arabesques of dizzying sonic detail.
