Memo Guerra is one-half of the drums and gadgets duo Gods of Speed, and the musician also releases solo, modular synth-based work under the moniker Cheap Talk. Guerra’s Not House LP came out last year on Abstrakt Muzak, and in discussing his process for the release, he explains:

“The modular is like an instant inspiration machine. In fact, there is almost nothing wrong that you can do on it. So just plugging stuff in random places will produce something unexpected and you react to that, so the workflow was more spontaneous and fun. I recorded various sessions playing and basically learning the modular system and then edited these in the form of club tracks in the classicist and purist sense of that culture, which is part of my past as a club kid in London. “

Today we watch Cheap Talk’s new video for “vis-ŕ-vis“, directed by Edith Valle and produced by Guerra. Collaging a barrage of old horror movies, B-grade film, and other visual ephemera, “vis-ŕ-vis” uses rhythmic editing to hypnotic effect and it’s a perfect accompaniment to this track’s acid-laced ride thru classic house/techno, into the gutter, and back home again.
