Jon Dwyer‘s Damaged Bug project will return this year with the release of his Bunker Funk LP on March 10th via Castle Face Records. Today we listen to “Unmanned Scanner“, the second offering from the upcoming album. Dwyer, in his inimitable fashion, has this to say about the record:

“Witness in horror the tractor beam pull throughout a breathless sprint through unfamiliar enemy territory – erratic laser beam synths dredge the lake, hard panned double drums resurrect dead heartbeats – load thy crossbow, friend, this night is long and we appear beset on all sides.”

While Damaged Bug has been an outlet for Jon Dwyer’s synth-leanings in the past, and seemingly something to do when he’s not Thee Oh Seeing, on “Unmanned Scanner” the guitarist’s combustible style is still in full effect. Hacking apart the blues with a psychedelic blow torch and reassembling the Frankenstein in his garage is something dude’s done since Pink and Brown, so it’s no accident Dwyer’s guitar work is the backbone of this raucous track. Sure, you can hear a synth in there sounding something like a helium balloon running out of gas in slow motion, but it’s really his fiery ax work that leads the way.

In addition to the upcoming Damaged Bug album, Dwyer will release a hardcover book collection of his posters called Exploded Globes on March 24th via his Castle Face Records label. The book is a hardcover edition, case-wrapped in crimson cloth with gold foil lettering, and you can check out the cover art for it after the track embed below.
