The Buttertones‘ track “Matador” is off the LA-based five piece’s upcoming LP Gravedigging due out March 31st via Innovative Leisure. The track premiered today via CLASH, where they explained that it was the first song written for their upcoming album. The band goes on to say:
“It helped pave the way for a darker direction and is one of the more unique songs because of its structure. It was one of the easiest songs to write lyrically as well. I’ll just say it’s about evaluating who you are and who you used to be.”
“Matador” channels surf-laden guitar and noir-leaning sax into a dark retro vibe that would sound perfect soundtracking a scene from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. One could imagine walking into the Bang Bang Bar on some foggy, dead end night to find these five fellows on the stage clad in suits and sunglasses, while they turn out this little ditty’s slinky and mysterious vibe.
The Buttertones are currently wrapping up a West Coast tour that recently brought them through Seattle for a show at the Chop Suey. You can check out photos from their performance here, and after the audio embed you’ll find a list of the band’s remaining tour dates…
