Let’s finish the week with The Buttertones‘ “Matador” video. The LA-based quintet sure knows how to put on a live show, so it’s only fitting that these new visuals, directed by Theo Cohn, feature the band performing the song. The video premiered this week via i-D, and the group’s singer-guitarist Richard Araiza had this to say about it:

“We shot it in a warehouse on a military base in San Pietro; some of us got new gear for it. Throw a little smoke and mirrors in there, and that’s pretty much it.”

The video opens in the warehouse’s more naturalistic setting, with sunlight streaming thru large windows, as The Buttertones enter in backlit relief. While essentially a performance video to begin, “Matador” does an excellent job of capturing the band’s live energy with kinetic, fast-paced editing. Before long, though, the scene changes, and the group’s cinematic and noir-leaning vibe comes out in dark neon-colored images that flash in blue and crimson.

Matador” is off The Buttertones new LP Gravedigging, out today on Innovative Leisure. While you’re at it, don’t miss the photos Live Eye Tv shot of The Buttertones performing live at Chop Suey in Seattle this past March.
