Moon Duo‘s new video for “Lost in Light” is another installment from animator Micah Buzan, continuing the “video suite” he began this January with “Cold Fear“. Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada star once again in an epic and psychedelic tale of cosmic proportions. Buzan’s animations are candy coated in Day-Glo and he uses scale, often, to depict universe within universe of teaming phenomena.
When we left Ripley and Sanae last, they were frozen with “Cold Fear”. Okay, if you haven’t been keeping up, that track appeared on Moon Duo’s Occult Architecture Vol. 1, while “Lost in Light” is off Occult Architecture Vol. 2–due out May 5th via Sacred Bones. The distinction is important because the two volumes of Occult Architecture are seasonally attuned, with the first reflecting the dormant realities of Winter, and the second, the reawakening that comes with Spring. Which means “Cold Fear”‘s dark Blade Runner-like city is now covered in green life to open “Lost in Light”, and that glowing orb referenced in the title figures prominently here. As the wheel turns from the first video to the second, we see The Duo escape the machinations of Death only to once again find themselves here exiting the cosmic womb–Ripley as a spore-like figure, and Sanae as a rainbow that cries life-giving tears.
