Motion Graphics recently teamed up again with CULTURESPORT on this dazzling video for “Softbank Arcade (Swiftcode Version)“. Motion Graphics is the electronic musician Joe Williams, and you can find this track on his self-titled debut which came out last August via Domino. According to the label, the record was inspired in part by the “ambient sound effects of digital menu systems” and towards this end, Williams built his own custom randomized software instruments for the record.
CULTURESPORT is an art collective formed by John Michael Boling and they do extraordinary visual work in the open source 3D animation program Blender. The group envisions a future-forward world in which humans and technology collaborate in increasingly intimate ways. Whether this will lead to the humanizing of technology or the technologizing of humans seems to be of major concern to the collective. Here, we might imagine the sleeping figure connected to a boom box through a tangle of wetware gear is Motion Graphics himself dreaming “Softbank Arcade (Swiftcode Version)” into existence through a transcription of his neural activity into musical source code. The future might not be so bad after all!
