The NY-based musician NOLIFE released a video this week for “UNKIND“. The track is off his upcoming LP YOU WON’T SURVIVE THE STATE OF NEW YORK due out tomorrow on Young Turks, and it’s a thrilling dissection of live drumming with sound textures drawn from the noisier side of techno. Coming up in the ranks of New York’s hardcore scene, NOLIFE continues that kind of DIY approach by shooting and editing the visuals for this track himself.

Shadowy images of a hooded man in a basement somewhere, as well as screens filled with gritty white noise, form the desaturated core here. But, with jittery, noir camerawork and plenty of black space, these visuals have a truly menacing quality. Plus, like this hyperactive track, the video is capable of changing directions all at once. For instance, at one point it drops to a dark screen displaying an oblique quote from Jacques Lacan’s Freudian re-work, The Mirror Stage–just one more mysterious element at play here!

While you’re at, NOLIFE has just released a new track for fashion designer Alyx‘s A/W 16 collection. It is the soundtrack to Nick Knight and Matthew Williams‘ film presentation of the collection starring the model Stella Lucia.
