Playing a little catch up on a Sunday…don’t want the week to end without watching Sam Coomes‘ super fun video for “Stride On“. The Portland-based musician is part of the duo Quasi with his ex-wife Janet Weiss, and has played with band’s like Heatmiser, Built to Spill, and Sleater-Kinney–to name a few. This track appears on Coomes’ 2016 solo effort Bugger Me, out now on Domino.

Recorded using only a vintage organ and a mid-‘60s rhythm box for accompaniment, the musician calls the album “entertainment music, but entertainment music meant for those not served by more mainstream entertainment music.” It’s an interesting proposition at a time when the internet’s seemingly limitless data options only serve to level our tastes into homogenous mush.

The video for “Stride On” takes visual cues from Bugger Me‘s “creature feature” album cover depicting an eye-popping collage of by-gone horror stars! Coomes plays organ here with a couple Swamp Thing backup singers, and a burqa wearing ventriloquist, as a pair of monkey-suited weirdos goof in the living room. Everyone’s having such a good time, though, they forgot to tell Sam he wasn’t wearing any pants.
