Pyramid Club is a duo that joins CGI Records‘ label head Matthew Weiner and his DKA Records partner Christopher Daresta in a music project that takes its’ name from the “venue which helped define the counter-culture and queer sound of lower Manhattan in the late 70’s.” The two also play solo as T.W.I.N.S. and Anticipation, respectively, but as Pyramid Club they explore the industrial regions of proto-techno via a vocally-driven electronic set-up.
Today we listen to “Cyclic Obsession“, the title track from the duo’s upcoming EP due out April 24th via the Berlin-based label Unknown Precept. Ripped, muscular basslines define this cut’s hard edge with the help of a 4/4 kick that hits you square in the chest. Before long deconstructed claps echo in a rubbery pendulum motion while mysterious vocal elements emit in undecipherable clouds of sulfur. The bass throbs are thick throughout while a host of analog synth sounds are thrown at the wall to see what sticks!
