Antonioni is a new Seattle-based quartet featuring singer/guitarist Sarah Pasillas. The musician has been releasing music since 2012, but it wasn’t until last year that she teamed up with local drummer Kyle Todaro. The pair would soon add bassist Evan Captain and guitarist Austin Dean to the fold before recently spending time at Seattle’s Pinehill Studios to record their upcoming EP Lullablaze due out April 21st via Den Tapes.

The album’s excellent title track channels the rainy melancholy of the Northwest. The bronze-toned twang of Pasillas’ evocative voice brings to mind early Neko Case as she moves thru hushed lyrical passages into ringing refrains with an ease that belies the dark yearning at the heart of this song. The video for “Lullablaze” was directed by the band’s drummer Kyle Todaro, and it often composites close-up footage of rushing water with images of the reclining singer bringing to mind John Everett Millais’ beautifully dark painting of Ophelia asleep in her cold river.
