Boss Hog‘s Brood X LP is out now on In the Red Records and it’s the NYC band’s first effort in seventeen years. Cristina Martinez, with husband/band partner Jon Spencer and company, sound like they’re in prime form on the album and their return to the rock game couldn’t come at a better time. Discussing the record, Spencer says of his wife’s work, “A lot of Cristina’s lyrics on this album resonate with me more deeply since the election. They’re blues songs, protest songs.”
Today we watch Boss Hog’s “Shh Shh Shh” video which premiered this morning via NPR. Directed by Aaron C. Lazar, former frontman for Brooklyn-based rock band The Giraffes, the new video stars Martinez and her group as they make a grisly discovery at a party they were, thankfully, fashionably late for. In talking about the video, she explained to NPR:
“Shh Shh Shh is a voyage into the id. An adventure in free association. Many of the songs on Brood X deal with moments of struggle or growth. We are always searching for a better way, a better self. Here you’ll see Boss Hog searching through the darkness in true Scooby-doo fashion.”
Look for Boss Hog to play a handful of live dates over the next three months in support of their new album. You can check out a list of the band’s upcoming dates after the video embed below…
