Chelsea Wolfe‘s track “16 Psyche” is off her upcoming LP Hiss Spun due out September 22nd on Sargent House. Recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge) in Salem, Massachusetts this past Winter, Wolfe’s sixth full-length also features guitar work from Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure) as well as a guest appearance from Aaron Turner (Old Man Gloom, SUMAC) on the song “Vex.” Discussing the upcoming album, Wolfe explains: “I’m at odds with myself…I got tired of trying to disappear. The record became very personal in that way. I wanted to open up more, but also create my own reality.”

16 Psyche” abounds with a dark power as it taps libidinal energies deep within the being. Heavy low-end provides an earth shaking gloom as the track’s guitar line spins a centripetal force into a downward spiral. The effect is that of a strong, narcotic undertow dragging the listener beneath black, chilling waves. It’s here that Wolfe emerges Siren-like and her powerful, dynamic vocal presence has the ability to convert self-destructive urges into a creative force capable of throwing a sulfurous light on this dark night of the soul.

Chelsea Wolfe will embark on an extensive North American tour this coming September. You can find a list of the upcoming dates after the YouTube embed…
