Melvins‘ drummer Dale Crover will release his solo debut The Fickle Finger of Fate on August 4th via Joyful Noise Records. The album was produced by Toshi Kasai, in tandem with Crover, who also handles most of the instrumentation on the record, including guitar, keyboards, and vocals, as well as drums, of course. The Melvins’ veteran is also joined on the record by Redd Kross’ Steven McDonald and Dan Southwick (Altamont), with Crover’s 11-year-old daughter Scarlett also adding violin, percussion and vocals.
The video for “Bad Move” is directed by Adam Harding, and it is a send up of Paul McCartney’s 1980 video for “Coming Up.” That video found the ex-Beattle playing all the instruments in his backing band while donning various guises including Ron Mael of Sparks and Andy Mackay of Roxy Music. Crover follows suit playing drums and singing with the help of Toshi Kasai on keyboard and Dan Southwick playing bass as the Birthday Party’s Tracy Pew. Shot on VHS for good measure, this video will have you tumbling down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos as you chase the fuzzy tale of meta-references.
Melvins are currently touring North America thru October before heading off to Europe with Redd Kross, and Crover will be drumming with both acts for the tour. Live Eye Tv recently photographed the Melvins recent stop in Seattle at the Showbox, and you can check out the all the photos here.
