Listen to Andrew Hung’s Track “Animal”

Andrew Hung co-founded the electronic duo Fuck Buttons with his art school buddy Benjamin John Power back in 2004. This year Hung will release his solo effort Realisationship on October 6th via Lex Records. Written and produced by Hung, the upcoming album also finds the musician singing throughout for the first time in his career, as on this first listen in, “Animal.” Providing important commentary on the track, Andrew explains,

“”Animal” is a warning that oppression brings about consequences; we have bred fear and now we are reaping its effects. We cannot address the external without first addressing the internal.”

“Animal” also reveals the artist moving towards a more organic approach to his sound, and while electronic elements are still prevalent, the cut has a decidedly post-punk feel. Ominous strings open here, as the underpinning of a funky drum rhythm slowly emerges. Arpeggiating bass soon adds to the electro- stylings on “Animal,” while harkening back to that time in the 70’s when a punk approach to music met increasingly affordable electronic instruments like the synthesizer, drum machine, and sequencer. Coupled with the urgency of Hung’s vocal delivery, laced with barbed social critique, “Animal” speaks to dire current events even while conjuring up moods of the past.
